Kenya eTA basic information

Kenya eTA is an electronic travel authorization system introduced in 2024 with the aim of improving security by checking incoming foreign visitors prior to their visit to Kenya.

The eTA to Kenya allows one 90-day visit to the country and remains effective for 90 days from approval. Travelers can go to Kenya under the ETA for sightseeing, vacationing, visiting their family and friends, business handling, and transferring.

The application process for Kenyan eTA is simple and doesn't take long. An applicant must provide their data in the form, upload the documents, and pay the fees. The approval will be delivered directly to the email address as the PDF document.

Visitors should enter Kenya by land, sea, or air and present a valid passport and a paper copy of the active eTA for Kenya upon arrival. The electronic travel authorization system makes immigration procedures quicker and more efficient.

Note: Kenya eTA is a travel authorization issued by Kenyan authorities and by itself does not ensure that a visitor is permitted entry into Kenya. When you arrive in Kenya, an immigration officer will make the decision on your admissibility.

Kenya eTA types

The Kenya eTA is available in one type: a single-entry permit for tourism, business, or transit visits to Kenya. Travelers can enter the country within 90 days from the eTA issue and have a 90-day stay, provided their purpose of travel is tourism or business. Should they travel through Kenya only for transit, the stay in the country cannot exceed 72 hours.

However, in particular situations, eTA Kenya holders can enter the country multiple times. Specifically, if you travel to one of the EAC Partner States (Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda), and you do not intend to enter any other country, while your Kenya eTA stays valid, you can come back to Kenya without the necessity to apply for Kenya visa online (eTA) anew.
